Community
Care Practices

My approach is rooted in a set of core practices designed to build trust, strengthen relationships, and center student voice in every learning environment.

A Culture of Positive Intention

At the heart of every learning space I create is a commitment to positive intention—toward myself as a guide, toward students as learners, and toward the overall tone of the classroom or workshop. This foundation shapes a climate of curiosity, compassion, and mutual respect.

Co-Created Agreements

Each learning container begins with a collaborative brainstorm around what we need to feel safe, engaged, and respected. This shared process invites all voices into the creation of classroom norms and encourages a sense of ownership, responsibility, and community.

Grounding & Mindfulness Practices

Every session opens with a guided “drop-in” to help us arrive—whether through breathwork, stillness, movement, or somatic practice. These moments of grounding support emotional regulation and presence, and become tools students and educators can add to their own self-regulation toolkits.

Mindfulness Is Optional

Mindfulness is always offered as an invitation, never a requirement. When students are given the choice to engage, they’re more likely to experience it authentically and carry it with them beyond the classroom. Empowered choice fosters deeper, more lasting impact.

Culturally & Historically Responsive Curriculum

I intentionally select literature and resources that reflect students' cultural identities and lived experiences. My approach creates space for students to explore and express both cultural and personal identity in ways that honor their uniqueness and community.

Learning Existing Classroom Culture

When entering an existing classroom, I begin by connecting with the lead educator and students to learn about established routines, norms, and values. This allows me to honor and support the existing culture while building relational trust.

1:1 and Small Group Connection

Whenever possible, I create space for one-on-one and small group connection. These moments allow me to better understand each student, build rapport, and more closely attune to their needs, strengths, and learning styles.

Expressive & Reflective Arts

Creativity is central to my learning spaces. Through reflective writing and expressive arts, students are invited to go inward, make discoveries, and share those discoveries with others in meaningful, honest ways.

Heart-Centered Closing Rituals

We close each session by returning to the heart—whether through sharing appreciations, self-reflections, or “aha” moments from the learning process. These rituals help us integrate the experience and honor the collective journey.
